Studio Opportunities

Spring Recital

 
Students are expected to participate in the annual Spring Recital.  Our recital is held in May in the auditorium of The Gardens of Taylor Glen.  Students can perform one or two solo pieces of music by memory.  Students may also elect to perform a duet with another piano student. 
 

NFMC Festival

 

The National Federation of Music Clubs hosts a Music Festival annually in the spring. Participants perform two pieces of music by memory for a judge.  The students will receive a written critique, rating, and a certificate of participation. The Festival is not a contest; therefore, students do not compete with one another, but strive to do their individual best. Students earn points towards a national Gold Cup Trophy for their participation and rating.

 

Scholarship Festival

 

This is a competitive music festival for upper level piano students to work towards NFMC gold cup points and compete for monetary awards.  Students perform two pieces of music for critique and ranking in their division. Two local winners will be selected from each division.  Winners will advance to compete at the state level (TBA). State level winners are required to perform at the winner’s recital to receive awards. Studio awards are given for superior ratings at each level.

NFMC Hymn-Playing Festival

 

The National Federation of Music Clubs hosts a Hymn-Playing Festival annually in the spring. Participants will perform two hymns with music for a judge.  The students will receive a written critique, rating, and a certificate of participation. The Festival is not a contest; therefore, students do not compete with one another, but strive to do their individual best. Students earn points towards a national Gold Cup Trophy for their participation and rating.

 

 
The Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum holds annual Scholarship Auditions where students compete against local students in their division for monetary awards. All participants receive a numerical score and a certificate of participation. Students must take a theory exam as part of this event.
 

NCMTA Piano Performance Festival District and State Levels

 

Students memorize three pieces of music and compete in their division. This is a very prestigious contest in which students who receive a Superior rating will go on to compete at the state level. The registration fee is $25. Each student will be assigned a specific time for their performance. All finalists will perform again the following day.

 

 
Students have the opportunity to perform as part of the Concord Holiday Home Tour inHistoric Concord. This is a walking tour of historic homes and sites.  Students will perform for one hour as part of the entertainment for the tour. 
 

The Studio will visit The Laurels in Highland Creek, Assisted Living in December to spread holiday cheer!  Students will prepare holiday themed music and perform with or without music for the residents. Please sign up at your lesson! These community performances typically are scheduled jointly with another studio. This gives students an opportunity to meet other student musicians in the community and hear a broad range of musical talent.
 
 
The National Federation of Music Clubs is holding their annual essay contest for 7th-12th grade music students. Your essay must be typed and no more than 500 words. The winner in each state will receive a $50 cash prize and their essay will be published in the Junior Keynotes state magazine. The annual postmark deadline is in January. Please ask for an entry form. Previous winners are ineligible to win.
